Pregnacy and Parenting : Nobody is a perfect Mom, stop saying I'm "lucky" to breastfeed, fun fall guide

Sunday feels..

BEST MOM EVER! As stated on the hat above, which was my Mother's Day gift from my little BUG.

Here's the thing...I would say that 40% of the time I certainly do not feel like the best mom ever. Full disclosure, I actually typed 90% before changing it to 40. Then I thought about it and I said "screw that". I work way to hard on this Mom gig to publicly give myself that little credit. The truth is, there are times where I really feel like I am dropping the ball on this parenting thing. I keep forgetting to send a family photo into my sons class, we are close to the last ones for drop-off every morning and since I struggle with a few chronic illnesses he spends a lot of time dealing with a Mom who is sick and in bed.

Be careful when looking to social media for parenting standards. I know that everyone seems to be making a special memory, looking beautiful, and getting along just great. But at my house, I promise you there is yelling, someone is crying (probably me), and there are typically random papers from school everywhere (and I can never find the one I actually need). Sometimes I spend days in bed too sick or tired to get up and my kid watches TV all day.

Let that sink in for a moment.

There is is beauty in imperfection and lessons to be learned from making mistakes. Our children don't need us to be perfect. They need us to be present. So, I will keep rocking the hat. After all, he likes me enough to think I am the best Mom and that's all that matters.

I am not lucky to be able to breastfeed. It is hard, hard, hard work. Completely, utterly, 5,000% worth it, but hard work.

There are a lot of hot-button topics when it comes to parenting and breastfeeding is certainly one of them. I really appreciated Heather's opinion on this one. While there is no doubt that breastfeeding is hard work, oftentimes luck has nothing to do with it. It is very evident to me lately that as a society we often speak before we slow down and think. We may say things like "oh she's so lucky" based on jealousy or anger with our own personal experiences. Sometimes the best thing we can do is consider that everybody has a different experience and be appreciative for our experiences and kind to other no matter what their experience is or was.
